Scope of the Issue
– Homelessness in the United States:
– Over 550,000 people experience homelessness on any given night (HUD, 2020)
– 25% of homeless individuals are children under 18 (HUD, 2020)
– Global Shoelessness:
– 1.5 billion people worldwide lack access to adequate footwear (WHO, 2019)
– 300 million children globally do not own a pair of shoes (UNICEF, 2020)
– Children and Families in Need:
– 1 in 5 children in the United States live in poverty (NCCP, 2020)
– 40% of families in poverty lack access to basic necessities like shoes (NCCP, 2020)
